DATE: Sunday, November 6th 2016
In the early Baroque, composers began experimenting with a daring new style that combined fantasy, virtuosity, improvisation and surprising harmonic twists. The “Stylus Fantasticus” of Buxtehude and his contemporaries strongly influenced both J.S. Bach, and the Sturm und Drang music of C.P.E. Bach. Violinist Rona Goldensher, gambist Laura Jones and harpsichordist Borys Medicky will trace the colourful musical journey of these composers, along with the exploratory works of Schmelzer and Erlebach.
